About Amy's Haven

Amy Herchig B.A, LMT, NCTMB is a state and nationally certified massage therapist in private practice in Honolulu, HI.

Amy received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications in 1991 from Wheaton College.  Her study of bodywork began in 2004 while pursuing graduate work in Anthropology at the University of Hawaii.  Two of her four years of graduate work focused on studying the life history of an archaeological population as evidenced in the body’s hard tissues (skeletal system).  While learning Lomi Lomi for a possible Ph.D. proposal, Amy realized that a person’s life history is more apparent and knowable in the body’s soft tissues (all tissues except skeletal tissue).

After studying Lomi Lomi massage, Amy studied massage at Hawaii Healing Arts College in 2004.  After completing her National Certification Boards for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork, Amy seriously pursued continuing education in her field.  In 2005 she became a Doula (birth assistant), received training in Chi Nei Tsang (abdominal Chi gong; based on the techniques of Gilles Marin) and Facilitated Stretching with Bob McAtee.  In 2006 Amy studied Oncology massage with Gayle McDonald, Ethics with the AMTA and Hakomi Body Psychotherapy with Donna Martin. In 2007 Amy attended dissection workshops at the John A Burns School of Medicine (studying upper/lower extremities and back) and Visceral Manipulation I from the Barral Institute with Christoph Sommer.

Amy is a member in good standing with the Massage Therapists Association of Hawaii, the American Massage Therapy Association, the American Association for the Advancement of Science and the International Association of Dance Medicine and Science.

Hobbies include dance and movement, yoga, reading, travel, gardening and movies.
